What is accessibility? It simply means giving people of all abilities opportunities to participate fully in everyday life.
The Township of Chisholm is committed to promoting independence, dignity, integration and equality of opportunity for persons with disabilities. Our goal is to make the Township workplaces accessible and welcoming environments where both employees and customers are accommodated, in a timely manner, to meet their needs.
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act was passed in 2005. Its goal is to make Ontario accessible for people with disabilities by 2025. This act lays the framework for the development of province-wide mandatory standards on accessibility in all areas of daily life.
10th Anniversary of the AODA
Did you know that 2016 marks the 10th anniversary of the AODA? Who benefits when we work together to make Ontario accessible? Follow the YouTube link below to find out.
Ontario now has accessibility standards in five areas:
- customer service
- information and communications
- design of public spaces
The Township now also has a legal obligation to prepare a Municipal Accessibility Plan as well as a policy on Accessible Customer Service and make these available to the public. Copies can be picked up at the office or can be downloaded by clicking at the bottom of this page.
Your Business and Accessibility
If you are a private business, non-profit organization, or any other service provider with at least one employee in Ontario, you must comply with the Accessibility Standard for Customer Service. This Standard outlines a set of minimum requirements that must be met when dealing with the public to ensure minimum accessibility requirements. For specific details regarding compliance regulations for business and organizations, please visit the Accessibility Ontario website at AccessON or call 1-866-515-2025 or TTY (416) 325-3408.
Accessible Formats and Communication Supports
If you require an accessible format or communication support, please contact the Township office at 705-724-3526 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
