Tips for taking part in recycling

Get to know what materials are recyclable.  If you are unable to identify material, it probably is not recyclable material.  It goes in your garbage bag.

Make sure your food containers are relatively clean and free of food debris.  Contaminated recycling materials will not be collected.

Flatten/tie/stack your cardboard together, separate from all other paper products.  You can place them beside, on top of, or under your other paper products.

All tin, aluminum foil, and plastic containers may be mixed together.  Leave labels on, and ensure that they are relatively clean.

It is important to remove caps and lids off plastic bottles and put them in your garbage.

Do not recycle Styrofoam, waxed paper, soiled facial tissue, toilet paper, paper towels, or any material that cannot be cleaned of food debris.

If there are recyclable materials in your plastic garbage bag, it will not be accepted at the landfill.  Do not bring or send your hazardous household waste to the landfill.  These must be brought to the Hazardous Household Waste Depot in North Bay at 112 Patton Street.  Call 474-0400 ext. 333 for details.
